Archives
The Union County Historical Society maintains a significant archive and genealogical research center in the Herzstein Memorial Museum. The archive includes photographs, maps and assorted documents related to the people and places of the county and the northeastern New Mexico area.
The museum maintains a library of books, pamphlets, newspaper and magazine clippings written by and about area residents. All historical and genealogical materials are available for public inspection and most may be photocopied for a modest charge. Most of the photograph collection may be copied upon request.
People who are working on their family histories with a local connection are encouraged to consider the Union County Historical Society Archive as a public repository of their work. To date, the archive has a very complete history on the Herzstein, Wolford and Ketchum families along with many others in published book form or in photocopied manuscripts.
Due to the generous gift of Tom and Sybol Oliver McLaughlin of Fort Myers, Florida, the museum has a fairly extensive library on Native Americans. Sybol is a former resident of Clayton and Union County. |
